  1. Problems

    • Water shortage
      • Electricity Shortage
        • Uneducated population
          • Health problems
            • Malaria kills over 1.2 million people annually, mostly African children under the age of five (3). Poorly designed irrigation and water systems, inadequate housing, poor waste disposal and water storage, deforestation and loss of biodiversity, all may be contributing factors to the most common vector-borne diseases, including malaria, dengue and leishmaniosis.
            • Poor sanitation and hygiene kill particularly as a result of diarrhea disease
          • High illiteracy rates increase the crime rates in society: This does not mean every illiterate person is a criminal. However, some illiterate people commit crimes out of necessity. If an illiterate person is jobless, he may be forced to steal to feed his family.
          • Illiteracy rates increase poverty in society: People who are illiterate always earn the lowest wages in the society. If they can find a job, it is a job for people with low skill levels. As a result, illiterate people may not earn enough money to support themselves and their families.
        • Rural areas without access to electricity can find it hard to attract good teachers, as well as medical staff. It affects everything, from lack of light for school students to do their homework, to equipment available in school.
        • Lack of access to clean energy for cooking also has negative impacts on women’s and children’s health and means they spend time collecting firewood rather than doing schoolwork or other activities.
      • Lack of enough water makes cleaning of dishes, clothes and other household items difficult. They will remain dirty and unhygienic. This will have a negative effect on the health of an individual.
      • Water shortage makes it difficult to grow crops especially in dry areas that depend on irrigation. When crops are not planted, there won’t be enough food for people.
      • Water is used for different domestic purposes including bathing. When there is shortage, people may not bath. Their bodies will be dirty hence susceptible to infection by diseases and attack by parasites.
