1. Macbeth

   • "stars hide your fires; let not light see my black and deep desires" -appearance vs reality, Macbeth's deepest desires are to kill Duncan and Malcom
     • Says he is duncans kinsman and his subject and those are 2 reasons that he should not kill duncan

2. Lady Macbeth

   • Basically says Macbeth is to feminine and cowardly to kill them and that she will talk Macbeth into killing them
     • Finds out Duncan is coming and tells spirits to unsex her and take away all her femininity
       • Tells Macbeth to act innocent and not show his plan
     • calls Macbeth a coward and says she raised a child to convince him to kill duncan
     • Her plan is to wait till duncan is asleep and get all the workers drunk and blame it on them

   • Duncan
     • Calls macbeth "O valiant cousin! worthy gentleman!
       • after cawdor is executed duncan says "there is no art to find the minds construction in the face" means do not judge a book by its cover

   • introduce theme in scene 1 appearance vs reality "fair is foul and foul is fair
   • Predict Macbeth will be thane of Glamis, thane of Cawdor, and king

7. Thane of Cawdor is sentenced to death

   • Macbeth thinks he will be next thane

8. Ross

   • Tells Macbeth that he is the thane of Cawdor

9. Banquo

   • says the instruments of darkness (witches) are only telling the truth because they will betray them later
