They are three major theories
- Biological Theories
- The biological theories has two explanation which is : The genetic theories and the metabolic imbalance.
- Psychological theories
- Sociological Theories
- Sociological theories make use of broader, structural, cultural, or institutional factors and variables • Social disorganization • Anomie • Social control and self-control • Social learning and subculture • Selective interaction or socialization • Conflict theory
- Reinforcement theories suggest individuals continue drug use because they have a past history of being rewarded for doing them • Personality theories suggest individuals have a type of personality that compels them to use and abuse drugs
