       • dramatic ironic- as Macbeth is not what he seems- plotting to kill the king.
   • darkness/concealment
     • "Stars, hide your fires!"
       • "Let not light see my black deep desires"
         • Macbeth needs utter concealment in order to progress with the killing

2. scene 5

   • appearance/reality
     • Lady Macbeth
       • "he brings great news"
       • "Thus tho must do"
         • must kill king in order to become stronger and more powerful
       • transgression of females/subverting stereotypical woman role
       • "unsex me here"
         • can only do bad if she was a man
         • "take my milk for gall"
   • darkness
     • "blanket of the dark"
   • "Look like the innocent flower but be the serpent under't"
