1. What is Reactive Policing?

   • There are now less police officers on foot and have cars, meaning they are now able to cover more land and respond to crimes a lot faster.
   • The advancement of technology, reactive policing to emerge from beat poliallowedcing
     • Beat Policing - Walking covering small distance areas
       • Reactive Policing - The use of cars and technology to cover bigger areas, quicker.
   • This approach was implemented with the intention of scaring people out of committing a crime because of how quickly they would be caught

2. Advantages

   • Up to date technology can be used to solve the crime quicker
     • Helicopter
     • Two-way radio system
     • CCTV
   • Police efficiency can now be measured
   • Officers can patrol whilst awaiting a call, therefore could come across a crime as it is happening and stop it straightaway
   • Criminals would be caught, therefore they would not be able to re-offend

3. Disadvantages

   • Doesn't solve the root causes of crimes
     • Therefore, the crime has still happened and will increase statistics
     • Doesn't prevent crime
   • Strained relationship between the police and community
     • Reliance on public to report crime
     • Lack of intimate knowledge
       • Doesn't help build trust
   • Not efficient as this happens after the crime, in which it will have already had an affect on somebody

4. Conclusion

   • A little bit of comparison to Intelligence-Led Policing
     • Reactive policing happens after the crime
     • Intelligence-Led, aims to be proactive and prevent the crime
