World Climates
The Equatorial climate
- Temperature:
- It is always hot, wet and humid since the sun is in a high angle all trough the year. Almost everyday is the same climate, fine in the morning, cloudy and wet in the afternoon and humid with clear skies in the evening. No seasons, so there is no winter or summers.
- Location:
- Most equatorial regions lie in a narrow zone which extends 1,500 km. the two main Equatorial regions are the river basins in the Amazon and the Congo in Africa
- Rainfall:
- The rainfall is heavy and falls during most afternoons as torrential rainstorms. These rainstorms are mainly due to convectional rainstorms . Rainfalls totals can be greater than 2,000 mm a year. Even in the drier moths there is still a lot of rain
- Temperature:
The Mediterranean climate
- Location
- Apart of the Mediterranean sea area, all the regions are located on the west coast of continents. they are also all found on latitudes 30 and 40, both north and south of the equator, in those latitudes the sun is still high so it brings wrms days.
- Temperature
- It has seasons, Summers are very hot and dry with over 30· C at times, warm and wet winters with temperatures similar to a British springtime.
- Summers are hot and dry because of the angle of the sun and the wind blows over diffrent direction in a dry and warm land which can't pick up moisture so it dries.
- Winters are warm and wet because although the sun is a little bit down it is still in an angle which gives warm days, and the wind blows off the sea and brings in warm and moist air which gives relief rain
- Rainfall
- The total rainfall is 300 mm to 500 mm, wet in winter with many days of light rain, very little rain in summer sometimes causing drought, but sometimes in summer there are heavy thunderstomrs
- Location
The Hot Desert climate
- Location:
- Most deserts are located at the Wets coast of continents where dry winds blow across the land. Hot desserts are found between latitudes 10 and 30 north or south of the equator. The sun is always high enough in these latitudes so it warms up the days,
- Temperature
- the hot deserts are very hot during the day and in summer, the winters are cooler and cold nights. There are few clouds, very little rain. The temperature in summers can reach 50· C at times, temperatures in winter are way more cooler and can fall near to be freezing, Nights are cooler than days,Inland areas are hotter than costal areas
- Rainfall
- Rainfall usually come in heavy showers, there is very little rainfall usually less than 250 mm a year. The rainfall is unreliable and there is no wet season. Theres is little rain because when the wind blows from the land theres is no moisture to pick up, and when the wind blows sea, they are cool and unable to pick up much mositure
