GRAMMAR UNIT 8

1. REPORTED SPEECH.

   • DEFINITION: When we report what someone said, we usually change the tense of the verbs.
     • EXAMPLES: 1) Luis: " I live in Canada"/ Luis said that he lived in Canada. 2) Karla: " I am going to the cinema"/ Karla said that she was going to the cinema. 3) Ana: " I didn´t finish the homework"/ Ana said that she hadn´t finished the homework. 4) Juan: " I can´t wait for the party"/ Juan ssaid that he couldn´t wait for the party. 5) Luisa: "I am going to the school"/ Luisa said that she was going to the school.

2. SAY AND TELL - REPORTED YES/NO QUESTIONS

   • DEFINITION: We can use the verbs ,say and tell ,to report what someone said. We use tell if we want to specify who he person was talking to, and say if we don´t want to give this information.
     • EXAMPLES: 1) Jorge: " Are you happy"?/Jorge asked me if I was happy. 2) Belén: " Do you like drama films"?/ Belén asked me if I liked the drama films. 3) Cristhian: "Can you play the guitar"?/ Cristhian asked me if I could play the guitar. 4) Jose: "Do you like soccer"?/ Jose asked me if I liked soccer. 5) Rosi: "Did you see Fast and Furious movie"?/ Rosi asked me if I had seen Fast and Furious movie.
