2. CHIAROSCURO

   • based simply on lines and shading
   • visual game between light and shadow
   • light sources are either natural or artificial
   • light is also direct or reflected
   • Tones also distribute shadows in drawings.
   • brightness determines tone value
     • highlight
     • middle tone
     • shadow
     • reflection

3. DRAWING TECHNIQUES

   • PENCILS
     • have a lead surrounded by wood
     • hardness level
       • H: hard
         • finer, pale grey, dry and rough
       • B: soft (black)
         • darker, oilier and softer stroke
   • CHARCOAL
     • small bar of vegetable coal
     • provides a direct shadow effect used with the smudger or eraser
     • paper with a thicker grain
     • first a sketch is needed and then all tha shadows are done
     • when applied leaves a powdery stroke. which can be extended with the smudger

4. COLOUR AND PAINTING TECHNIQUES

   • COLOURED PENCILS
     • similar to graphite, with coloured leads
     • oloured pigments glued together with wax
   • PASTELS AND WAX CRAYONS
     • dried paints glued together with a liquid similar to charcoal
     • they can be blured with a smudger or a finger
