Standards for teaching and learning

1. Know students and how they learn

   • Understand how students learn
     • Students are engaged and motivated when using technology such as iPads. If a teacher is using these devices, they are demonstrating they understand this knowledge.
   • Differentiate teaching to meet the specific learning needs of students across the full range of abilities.
     • There are many different apps at various different levels made available by the iPad and is therefore suitable for students at all ability levels
   • Strategies to support full participation of students with disability
     • iPads are a touchscreen tablet which can be used as an alternative to pen and paper and can therefore be beneficial for students with dyslexia and cerebral palsy.

2. Know the content and how to teach it

   • Literacy and numeracy strategies
     • Numeracy and Literacy apps can be used as a strategy for teaching these subjects.
   • Infomration and Commincation Technology (ICT)
     • An iPad is a type of ICT

3. Plan for and implement effective teaching and learning

   • Use teaching strategies
     • The use of technology (iPads) is a commonly used teaching strategy
   • Select and use resources
     • There are a wide range of features on the iPad such as safari, apps, the camera, music etc. that can be used as a resource.

4. Create and maintain supportive and safe learning environments

   • Support student participation
     • iPads are very inclusive and therefore all students can be encouraged to complete activities whilst using them.
   • Use ICT safely, responsibly and ethically
     • By using iPads appropriately, students and teachers are able to demonstrate their competency in this outcome

5. Assess, provide feedback and report on student learning

   • Provide feedback to students on their learning
     • Many apps on the iPad show scores or have a leader board, which shows the students their progress and how well they are performing
