RAPDTt Referential Model
It is a methodological tool designed to describe, analyze, and optimize the logistics flow in small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) in Latin America. It is based on a sequence of basic operations and is operationalized through 13 diagnostic instruments. It aims to help organizations identify weaknesses, strengths, and improvement opportunities in their logistics network.
1. Objective of the Model
- Provide a structured guide to evaluate and improve logistics flow.
- Establish a common methodology to characterize the supply chain in real companies.
- Strengthen decision-making capabilities through logistics diagnosis and analysis.
2. Structure of the Model
- 2.1. Basic Operations (R-A-P-D-t-T)
- Reception: Entry of raw materials or products. Storage: Preservation and control of inventory. Processing: Transformation or preparation of the product. Dispatch: Order preparation and product exit. Internal transport: Movement of materials within the company. External transport: Distribution to the final customer. These operations form a sequential cycle that models the physical flow of goods.
- 2.2. 13 Diagnostic Instruments
- Designed to evaluate critical components of each basic operation. Include variables such as infrastructure, time, human resources, planning, traceability, technology, among others. Each instrument uses an ordinal scale from 1 to 5, where: 1 = Absolute weakness 5 = Full strength

- 2.1. Basic Operations (R-A-P-D-t-T)
3. Key Definitions
- Basic logistics operation: Standardized sequence of tasks to manage physical flows. Diagnostic instrument: Tool that enables data collection and analysis on logistics processes. Physical logistics flow: The actual movement of products from supplier to customer. Logistics network: Set of actors (suppliers, company, customers) and operations enabling supply.
4. Types of Instruments
- 4.1. By collection technique Qualitative: Semi-structured interviews Direct observation Quantitative: Questionnaires KPI matrices
- 4.2. By level of analysis Strategic: Alignment with organizational objectives. Tactical: Planning of logistics operations (e.g., route scheduling). Operational: Daily execution of logistics tasks.
- 4.3. Common subtypes Checklists Comparative evaluation matrices Logistics dashboards (KPI visualization) Flowcharts (e.g., ASME diagrams)
5. Instrument Properties
- Ordinal scale (1–5): Facilitates gradual assessment. Content validity: Each instrument must correspond to a logistics operation or dimension. Reliability: Consistent results in similar applications. Clarity and conciseness: Precise wording for easy understanding. Practical applicability: Designed for interviews, not for mass surveys.
6. Considerations for Application
- 6.1. Before application Select personnel knowledgeable in logistics. Clarify key questions for each instrument. Prepare audiovisual materials for recording.
- 6.2. During application Conduct interviews (group or individual). Record video/audio (all team members must appear). Observe coherence, contradictions, and realism in responses.
- 6.3. After application Analyze collected data. Use tools like Excel for graphs (bar, pie, radar). Draft a summary of the overall compliance level.
7. Diagnosis Results
- Strengths: Processes rated 4 or 5; represent good practices. Weaknesses: Ratings between 1 and 2; indicate critical areas. Improvement opportunities: Ideas for redesign or process adjustment. Recommended strategies: Training, technology implementation, layout redesign, automation, etc.
