XYY Syndrome

1. History

   • Discovered By Two Cytogenticists Joe Hin Tjio and Albert levan
     • Lund University in Sweden
     • They descovered that the human body contains 46 chromosomes not 48 that had been the number they prevously had thought for the preceding 30 years
     • Refered to in the 1960's and 1970's as the super male syndrome
   • Rare condition

2. Genetic Causes

   • happens during sperm production
   • The chromosome doesnt seperate during the cross over and it causes the extra Y chromosome
   • nondisjunction

3. Effects on the Human Body

   • They have a chance of having behavioral problems
   • Chance of learning difficulties
   • Some normal sex chromosomes and some sex chromosomes with and extra Y chromosome
   • May be thinner and taller than peers
   • Has little to no effect
   • Severe acne

4. Life expectancy and complications

   • No change in life expectancy
