1. Characters

   • Julia
     • Winston's love interest, and  rebel of sorts. 
   • O'Brien
     • In the "inner circle" of the government, someone Winston is not sure whether or not to trust
   • Winston Smith
     • The main character. Winston travelling through the setting shows how society at the time is functioning. 
   • "Big Brother"
     • An ominous "always watching" figure, who may or may not even exist

2. Themes

   • Danger of totalitarianism
   • Psychological Control
     • Control of thought
       • By having news playing all day, and by promoting hateful thinking on multiple occasions, the characters didn't have much time to think for  themselves
     • Control of language
       • By limiting and shrinking the English language to be as simple as possible, the characters are slowly being given no proper way to express any bad thoughts
     • Control of interaction
       • By controlling who characters could interact with, there was no chance for them to create strong bonds with other individuals, making them easier to control
