Ambition
M shows how naked ambition, freed from any sort of moral or social conscience, takes over the characteristic of the person - can never be fulfilled therefore quickly grows into a monster that will destroy anyone who gives into it macbeth can only be influenced by the witches and lm if the ambition is already there
- "Stars, hide your fires. let not light see my black deep desires "
- Metaphor and personifictaion-M ambition drives him to murder D, since the prophecy M wants to protect his title for king meaning killing his friend B, his will has overtaken him and thus he has been consumed by his ambition-greedy for power. he realizes ambition is wrong 'black'
- "Horrid hell can come a devil more damn'd in evils to top macbeth"
- Fleance escapes- M realizes not all his ambitions will be metso he focuses on retaining his power- murder of Macduff's family suggest a tyrant ambition to hold to power at whatevers cost
- "All hail m that shalt be king after""
- Before the witches M was 'noble and loyal' despite his loyalty evidence to show M thought about kingship before- those feelings are only provoked when the witches say he'll be king , if m had no intention of becoming king his wife wouldn't have been informed
- "Stars, hide your fires. let not light see my black deep desires "
L.M pursues her ambition with determination, willingly she seeks evil to aid her objective and accepts evil
- "From the crown to the top full...of direst cruelty"
- She ask that no feelings towards of womanly humanity will upset the ruthless intention making sure her husband becomes king her selfdetermination and ambition helps her keep strong after the murder of D - greedy for power
- "hail king that shall be"
- Sh wants audience o know l.m character, her reaction to the letter allows audience to be aware of her of her ambition and throughout the play she is passive in watching m commit more atrocities while she is driven into madness and despair, not lm and m regret the ruit of their unbridled ambition
- "I dare do all that may become a man...Who dares do more is none."
- M admits lm is stronger, shows that he is not as ambitious as l.m indicates=wishes to have been born in the body of a man to commit the murders of Duncan. A woman with such angst and desire to suck the marrow dry of anything for her own benefit definitely is showing signs of being a bit more overbearing than her peers and certainly more ambitious than anyone else around her.
- "Your hand, your tongue: look like the innocent flower,/But be the serpent under't"
- Simile show how desperate l.m is for power n her ambition for the crown makes her mipulative and controlive
- "From the crown to the top full...of direst cruelty"
