1. UNIT 1: The evolution of machines

   • CONTEXT: History
     • SUBPRODUCT: Timeline and summary
       • FINAL OUTCOME: Section of a magazine.
         • Students will design a section of a magazine about machines and inventions. It will include: a summary accompanied by a timeline about the evolution of inventions; an advertisement for the effects of such inventions on society; and an article about an ‘eco-friendly invention’ with its author’s information and technical manual.

2. UNIT 2: Evolve to go back?

   • CONTEXT: Citizenship
     • SUBPRODUCT: Advertisment
       • Students will create an advertisement to raise awareness of the overuse of machines. The advertisement will be included at the bottom of the ‘EVOLchines’ section’ of the magazine. Student will have to create the advertisement on Canva.
   • UNIT 2. AIMS:
     • • to help students extend their knowledge about the advantages and disadvantages of machines on human life;
     • • to provide students with the means to understand and then create an advertisement.
   • CONTENTS
     • • Inventions that changed our world: Advances in industry, communication and transportation
       • • Differences between past and present advertisements
         • • Positive impact of machines on human life
           • • Consequences of overusing machines
             • • Will automation take away people’s jobs? (movie ‘Charlie and the chocolate factory’)

3. UNIT 3: RRRe-creating machines

   • CONTEXT: Natural science
     • SUBPRODUCT: Article
       • An article about the invention that students are supposed to create in this unit, taking into account the 3 R’s (For example, the title of the article can be ‘’A student from 5° designed a water powered car- totally pollution free’’). The article will also contain a visual manual with instructions for the effective operation of the invention/machine. This article will be included on the last part of the section.
   • UNIT 3. AIMS:
     • • to encourage students to take actions that can contribute to raise awareness about the environmental impact of machines;
     • •to help students evaluate different possible solutions to avoid pollution caused by machines.
   • CONTENTS
     • •Environmental impact of Industrial Revolution: air pollution, water pollution and deforestation
     • •Article: ‘The damage I cause when I wash my clothes’
     • • Can we stop pollution?: The 3 R’s (Reduce, Reuse and Recycle)
     • •Paperless instructions: How to make a visual manual without polluting the environment?

4. • helping students acquire concepts, skills, strategies and attitudes which enable them to become proficient at identifying and analyzing the development of machines, their features and their impact on human life as well as on the environment;
