quality of life is subjective but can be taken to mean that the individual can lead an independant and enabled life.Places to live can mean: own home, residential or nuring home, long stay hospitals, extra care.SOCIAL ENVIRONMENT IS WHERE PEOLE RELATE TO AND INTERACT WITH OTHERSPSYCH ENVIRONMENT IS WHERE PEOPLE HAVE FEELINGS AND ATTACHMENT TO THEIR EXPERIENCE OF LIVING THEREDOMESTIC HOME COMBINES ALL 3 ELEMENTS. IT IS A PHYSICAL AND SOCIAL SPACE WHICH SUPPORTS OR UNDERMINES SENSE OF IDENTITY AND PERSONAL WELL BEING OF THE PEOPLE WHO LIVE THERE. IT IS CENTRAL TO MANY PEOPLES LIVES.PHYSICAL ENVIRO = THE BUILT ENVIRONMENT, INCLUDES ALL WE SEE, HEAR, TOUCH, TASTESOCIAL ENVIRO = IMMEDIATE PHYSICAL AND SOCIAL SETTING IN WHICH PEOPLE LIVE , INCUDES CULTURE AND PEOPLE WITH WHO THEY INTERACTPSYCHOLOGICAL ENVIRO = HOW THEY PHYSICAL ENVIRONMENT IMPACTS ON PERSONS MENTAL WELL BEINGall above interlinked, if one is not right it impacts on all the others.PLACES TO LIVE: own home, nursing and residential homes, extra care facilities, long stay hospitals.NEGATIVE EFFECTS/ENVIRO - CEDAR COURT, OWN HOME, A poorly designed physical environment can impact on a persons social and psych well being. It can lead to a person feeling isolated and they can adopt an attitude or take on the role of the patient more than is needed. An example of poor physcial living environment is Cedar Court nursing home, it is cut off from the surrounding society by tall trees and heavy entrance doors add to this impression as well as givinh the impression of a hospital as opposed to a home where someone can live as independant and fulfilling a life as possible. This feeling of isolation impacts on the social and psych health/environment. The feeling of being cut off from society and its impact on psych health can be seen when a person with a disability lives in their own poorly or unadapted home. Their environmnet is diabling. Institutional attitudes mean the person living there is dehuamnised, they become one of the crowd and follow the rules, all semblence of independance and chioce is gone as they have to follow the routines as dictaed by the care workers. (GOFFMAN) - lennox castle.POSITIVE EFFECT/ENVIRO - SEVEN OAKS, SONALI GARDENS (extra care)Care living environmnets can be enabling through home adaptations and assisteve technology and this will impact on their social and prych health. Seven oaks demonstartes the importance of built enviro both inside and outside, it highlights the importance of natural light, this impacts also on mood of the workers and this makes for a more healthy and interactive social enviro reducing likelyhood of instutionalisation occurring. seven oaks also has postitve psych enviro as it has memory boxes and lsw, allows wrkers to get to know person as a person. they practice person centred care.SOCIAL MODEL OF DISABILITY - people needing assistance with have limitations that prevent them interacting with life in a way others who are able bodied or have no chronic disease do in society do. Not all disability is obvious. There are 3 barriers to active participation. Attitudinal, Structural, Environmnetal, these can be seen to be linked to physical - environmental, society - structural, psych - attitudinal.
