A cappella = Unaccompanied choral singingAB = Two part form - music in 2 sections, section A then B. These sections can be repeated. Accidental = A sign added to a note to change the pitch (eg. A to A sharp, B to B flat, E flat back to E - Natural)Alberti Bass = Broken chords played by the left hand, outlining harmonies whilst the right hand plays the melody. Classical composers such as Mozart and Haydn used this technique in their piano music. The chord is played in this order : low-high-middle-highArco = Instruction given to string players to use a bow. This is likely to happen after a pizzicato passage. Aria = A solo song sung in an operatic style, in an opera, oratorio or cantata, with orchestral accompaniment. Atonal = Atonal music has no feeling of key, major or minor. It is very dissonant and lacks a "nice" melody and accompaniment. Atonal music is the future of some 20th century music. Baritone = A voice which lies between the bass and tenor. Bassoon (AKA. The tree trunk) = This instrument belongs to the woodwind family. It uses a double reed, which is placed between the lips and air travels between the two reeds, along a metal crook and into the instrument.
