AMBITION :
Ambition is the main theme in Macbeth. The play shows that ambition can be dangerous and that it can spiral out of control very quickly.
Macbeth considers morality in the killing of Duncan - his ambition is not quite as excessive as Lady Macbeth's yet.
Ambition is shown to be Macbeth's fatal flaw. He was once a brave soldier at the start of the play , although, he is quickly manipulated by Lady Macbeth . She thinks that Macbeth isn't ruthless enough to take action for what he wants: " not without ambition, but without "
LOYALTY AND BETRAYAL
Loyalty is shown in various ways in Macbeth.
Country - Macbeth is loyal to Scotland at the start of the play, however, it could be argued that his selfish actions portrays him as a man who is putting his own needs and beliefs before the people of Scotland'.
King - Duncan is used to show how somebody should really be towards ruling a country, in comparison to Macbeth who, once becomes king, becomes blood thirsty. This also reflects on how Duncan is portrayed as a some-what delicate and caring man , while Macbeth seems to only be out to fluctuate his own self-worth and in Stature.
The play ultimately shows a lesson on how loyalty gets rewarded ( Malcolm becoming king ) and betrayal gets punished ( Macbeth gets murdered ).
GOOD AND EVIL
Macbeth is a good man who does evil acts - he was first described a " noble " person who was potential for greatness. Once he's tempted to give in to his ambition, Macbeth's goodness is overcome by his evil desires. This shows that even good people can be led astray by amibition
