Catholicism, meaning “universal church”
Roman Catholicism is a widespread branch of Christianity.
Catholicism was founded in the Roman province of Judea by Jesus Christ and his 12 Apostles shortly before Christ’s death.
It is believed that the religion started when Jesus told his Apostles to continue his work after he died.
This would have been around A.D. 30-33, but it became more of an organized religion when 380 A.D, when it became the official religion of the Roman Empire.
The first Pope, or head bishop, was St. Peter.
The Holy Bible is used as the Catholic holy book.
It is different than the bible that is used by protestant Christians because it contains chapters and readings, which are called “canon sections”, that the Protestants do not observe.
This Bible, however, still contains an Old and New Testament, just like other Christian Bibles.
The religion is believed to have originated from Jesus Christ after he told the apostles to cary on his work after he died. The approximate location the religion started in was Rome.
