2. Affirmative form

   • Suject + past simple form of the verb
   • Examples
     • I went home very late last night. I went to Susan's party
     • I changed clothes for the party when I got home from the office

3. Negative form

   • Subject + Didn't (did not) + infinitive
     • Example
       • She didn't look very well yesterday in class
       • She didn't come to school the next day. She was very ill.

4. Time expressions

   • That day/night/week/month, etc.
   • Yesterday
   • The day before yesterday
     • Last night/year/month/week/Sunday
       • A week/ few days/month/year ago
         • In 2006, in May...
           • When I was...

5. Use

   • Actions or events that started and finished in the past
     • Examples
       • He saw a ghost in the corridor last night
       • She walked right next to me but she didn't recognize me
       • We visited my aunt in France last year
