Tet Offensive: Khe Sanh 20,000 vs 6,000 a distraction for a nationwide assault which brought the Vietnamese into urban areas where American fire power could be used. They took out radio towers and made there way to saigon. While they didn't hold these areas and large numbers died it was a heavy blow to Johnson and the USA where Anti-War sentiment was growing and it showed just how much this was was one of attrition.

1970: Kent State University: 4 shot dead however the silent Majority speech of Nixon's showed the 68% of US Citizens still supported the war much like they supported 64% supported the invasion of North Korea back in 1950

1965: Rolling Thunder dropping more bombs on North Vietnam than the Allies did in the entirety of 1939-45.

1964: Gulf of Tonkin Incident allows for the Gulf of TOnkin resolution. Johnson can go to war without declaring war.

1963: Coup against Diem in Saigon ends with his death in November this leaves Vietnam without a ruler and in chaos America can't leave it without it falling to the north. Eventually General Thieu takes over.

Kennedy's assassination. Johnson has no mandate and as VP is placed as President. He can't leave because of how the situation has built up.

1954: Geneva Accords:

Vietnam to be split at the 17th Parallel

Laos and Cambodia to be independent

No foreign Troops.

USA Take an observational role and do no sign anything meaning they're not obliged to follow the rules.

Diem Bien Phu: 12,000 French defeated due to guerilla tactics. French withdraw from Vietnam
