2[blank_start]User-centric design[blank_end] solves technology and business problems from a real person's perspective, doing real work behind the screen with the tools built by Pega. Good design anticipates user behavior and helps users seamlessly accomplish what they set out to do.
The design process must incorporate [blank_start]empathy[blank_end] as a critical element. Empathy is the ability to understand what other people feel from their perspective. It is not the same as sympathy, which is the act of showing concern. Using empathy helps Pega create solutions for the problems the software aims to solve.
Bad design makes for tiring, tedious, and frustrating experiences. Enterprise software users may spend over eight hours a day with Pega products, and good design keeps users engaged for those eight hours to focus on their job instead of struggling with technology. [blank_start]Engaging design[blank_end] elicits positive feelings, and positive feelings at work lead to better performance and results.

18You are part of an interdepartmental development team and are asked to create a stand-alone iOS app. Since your team does not have an iOS signing certificate, you need to deliver the iOS app to another department, which signs the app locally before submitting for review and distribution to the App Store. How do you create the mobile app?
- ACreate an SDK app
- BExport an unsigned native iOS app
- CCreate a signed SDK app
- DCreate a signed native iOS app
19Your company has developed a process in Pega Platform™ for tracking orders. Your company also has an existing Android app. You are asked to create a mobile app solution to include the new order tracking process in their existing app. How do you build the mobile app?
- ACreate a signed SDK app
- BCreate an SDK app
- CBuild a native Android app
- DExport an unsigned app
20Using the [blank_start]Pega Mobile Client[blank_end], you can develop a [blank_start]stand-alone, native mobile app[blank_end] experience that leverages full device functionality such as continued [blank_start]offline processing[blank_end] of a case, [blank_start]push notifications, barcode[blank_end] [blank_start]scanning, or biometric identification[blank_end]. Native apps also contain [blank_start]device-specific security[blank_end], [blank_start]integration, and management features[blank_end] that can have branding and are distributed on the enterprise app marketplaces for Android and iOS platforms.
[blank_start]Native app[blank_end] (Android and iOS)
You can build a stand-alone "native" app to leverage device features such as push notifications, barcode scanning, biometric identification, and device security features. These apps are distributed on the respective App stores for the Android and iOS platforms.
[blank_start]Unsigned mobile app[blank_end]
You have the option to export an [blank_start]unsigned iOS app[blank_end] to sign locally, so that you do not expose your iOS certificates and provisioning profiles in [blank_start]third-party platforms[blank_end]. You export a native iOS app in the form of an [blank_start]unsigned xarchive.zip file[blank_end]. This way, you can sign your mobile app locally in the development environment of your choice. Use this option if you [blank_start]do not have access to an iOS certificate[blank_end] set, and the party with access to the [blank_start]certificate set cannot access Pega[blank_end], or [blank_start]cannot build a mobile app[blank_end] from the app channel.
[blank_start]SDK App[blank_end]
You can build an SDK app, a "piece" of an app, that can be [blank_start]reused in other native apps[blank_end]. SDK apps afford development flexibility to reuse existing mobile apps to [blank_start]include Pega Platform capabilities[blank_end]. SDK apps allow you to integrate Pega Platform processes and functionality with other mobile apps. With an SDK app, you can use an [blank_start]application package file[blank_end] to incorporate a mobile app into another containing mobile app by using a [blank_start]third-party development tool[blank_end] for the appropriate platform. The [blank_start]containing app[blank_end] determines the app [blank_start]layout and appearance[blank_end]. For example, an insurance company wants to incorporate Pega Platform functionality to add a report accident process to their app. An SDK app embeds [blank_start]into the existing mobile app[blank_end] and launches an embedded Pega app to initiate the report accident process.
SDK apps [blank_start]flexibly integrate[blank_end] with existing mobile app functionality [blank_start]not tied[blank_end] to the Pega Platform application, such as an office location search, and may work [blank_start]alongside several[blank_end] Pega Platform applications. To help build SDK app solutions, the Pega Mobile SDK allows users to develop [blank_start]native Android and iOS mobile apps[blank_end] by using an [blank_start]integrated development environment (IDE)[blank_end] of your choice so that the mobile apps can interact with Pega Platform.
The Pega Mobile SDK consists of the [blank_start]Connect SDK and the Mashup SDK[blank_end]. Depending on what task you perform, you will use different tools in the Pega Mobile SDK:
The [blank_start]Connect SDK[blank_end] provides access to Pega Platform data in your native mobile app directly by using the Pega API
The [blank_start]Mashup SDK[blank_end] allows you to embed parts of a Pega Platform application into your native mobile app- APega Mobile Client
- Bstand-alone, native mobile app
- Coffline processing
- Dpush notifications, barcode
- Escanning, or biometric identification
- Fdevice-specific security

21On the [blank_start]Mobile certificates[blank_end] landing page, you can view all the [blank_start]defined certificate sets[blank_end] for the Android or iOS mobile platforms and [blank_start]create new ones[blank_end]. For Android certificates, once you [blank_start]enter a package name[blank_end] and select [blank_start]a signing certificate[blank_end], you can click Save to [blank_start]add the new certificate set[blank_end] to the mobile certificates landing page. You can then use the [blank_start]complete certificate set[blank_end] to [blank_start]generate an installation package[blank_end] for your app for [blank_start]testing or distribution[blank_end]. For iOS certificates, a [blank_start]complete iOS certificate set[blank_end] consists of [blank_start]the bundle ID, signing certificate,[blank_end] [blank_start]mobile provisioning file,[blank_end] [blank_start]and push notification certificate[blank_end].
Building a mobile app from a Pega Platform application requires completing several tasks [blank_start]before building the app itself[blank_end], including [blank_start]obtaining certificates[blank_end], [blank_start]setting up push notification[blank_end] [blank_start]settings, configuring access to other[blank_end] Pega apps (if necessary), and [blank_start]configuring access[blank_end] to the Pega Mobile Build Server. Pega Mobile Build Server allows developers to [blank_start]single-click build[blank_end] their mobile app for [blank_start]Android or iOS[blank_end] and [blank_start]locally download[blank_end] the app package file that can then be [blank_start]signed and uploaded[blank_end] to the respective [blank_start]enterprise app stores[blank_end] for distribution.
These tasks are different depending on your release platform target (iOS or Android).
[blank_start]Upload a certificate set[blank_end]: Certificate sets are required to sign and distribute iOS and Android applications.
[blank_start]Configure access[blank_end]: You receive credentials for the Pega Mobile Build Server and the URL with the Pega Mobile Client License, and configure these in [blank_start]Admin Studio[blank_end].
[blank_start]Support access through HTTPS[blank_end]: Pega Mobile Build Server requires secure HTTPS access.
When you are ready to convert your application into a mobile app that users can install on their mobile devices, you can generate [blank_start]installation packages[blank_end]. Before you begin to convert your application, ensure that you use an HTTPS connection and an [blank_start]SSL certificate from a trusted vendor[blank_end]. You must also have a certificate set created for the app that you want to convert.
During the design of your application, remember that mobile devices are [blank_start]much slower[blank_end] than desktop devices. As a mobile app developer, focus on performance aspects even more than in web applications. Use [blank_start]only one unlocked ruleset[blank_end] for mobile app development. If you want to make changes in multiple rulesets, use [blank_start]branches[blank_end]. If you want to [blank_start]share rulesets[blank_end] between applications or between versions of the same application, ensure that a shared ruleset [blank_start]does not contain[blank_end] a mobile channel interface rule instance. An instance of a mobile channel is [blank_start]bound to only one[blank_end] Pega Platform application version – the one within [blank_start]the context of which it was created[blank_end]. Place the [blank_start]unlocked application ruleset[blank_end], in which you save your mobile channel and related rules, at the [blank_start]top[blank_end] of the application stack.- AMobile certificates
