1. Salts

   • Why is it important to form salts?
     • Formation of salts causes a great increase in the solubility of the substance
       • Potassium, sodium and calcium salts form with acidic drugs
       • Sulphate, tartrates with basic drugs
     • By forming a salt there is a change in the pH of the diffusion layer therefore allowing the drug to dissolve more easily (increases saturation solubility)
