Passive :BE+PAST PARTICIPLE

• Legenda: We make the passive using ‘be’ and the past participle (‘done’, ‘played’ etc.). We use the passive:
• When we don’t know, or we are not interested in, who does an action.
• EXAMPLES:
• 1.-In the past, new words were coined.2.-We don’t know who invented the words.

• When the main topic of the sentence isn’t the person who did the action.
• The word ‘robot’ was coined in the 1920s by the writer Karel Čapek.
• The main topic here is the word ‘robot’, not the person who invented it.
