- Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band is the 8th studio album by The Beatles.
- It was released on the 26th May 1967 in the United Kingdom and shortly thereafter in other countries.
- The record became recognised as the first real concept album and paved the way for ‘art rock’ and ‘progressive rock’ that dominated the popular music scene during the late 60's and the early 70's.
-

- The album stemmed from McCartney's idea of having a song involving an Edwardian era military band.
- With this idea, Sgt. Pepper's band became an alter ego group that would give them the freedom to experiment musically.
-
- The group used this album to experiment with new technologies and playing methods that couldn't be used live.
-

- The album was marked as one of the first multi-genre albums to be released. Its genres includes: Rock, Pop, Classical, Indian
- classical, Vaudeville, Ragtime and Avante Garde.
- The album was recorded using a 40 piece orchestra, as well as the band's usual instrumentation.
- The record opens with 10 seconds of a pit orchestra tuning up, creating the illusion of a live performance. There is also cheering and seamless transitions between some of the songs.
