1Global Winds
Global winds are winds that occur in [blank_start]belts[blank_end] that go all around the planet Like local winds, global winds are caused by [blank_start]unequal[blank_end] heating of the atmosphere.
Heating and Global Winds
Earth is hottest at the [blank_start]Equator[blank_end] and gets [blank_start]cooler[blank_end] toward the poles. The differences in heating create huge [blank_start]convection[blank_end] currents in the troposphere. At the Equator, for example, [blank_start]warm[blank_end] air [blank_start]rises[blank_end] up to the tropopause. When it can’t rise any higher, it flows [blank_start]north[blank_end] or [blank_start]south[blank_end].
By the time the moving air reaches [blank_start]30[blank_end]°N or °S latitude, it has [blank_start]cooled[blank_end] somewhat. The [blank_start]cool[blank_end] air sinks to the surface. Then it [blank_start]flows[blank_end] over the surface back to the [blank_start]Equator[blank_end]. Other global winds occur in much the same way. There are [blank_start]three[blank_end] enormous [blank_start]convection[blank_end] cells [blank_start]north[blank_end] of the Equator and [blank_start]three[blank_end] south of the Equator.- Aunequal
