Flashcards
X rays
Flashcards do conjunto (8)
- 1Describe four properties of x days1. They have a high frequency and a very short wavelength
2. They affect photographic film in the same way as light
3. They are absorbed by metal and bone
4. They are transmitted by healthy tissue - 2What are they used for?To form images of bones on photographic film to check for fractures and dental problems
- 3What are CDD's?Charged Coupled Devices can be used to form electronic images of x rays.
- 4What are CT scanners? They use x rays to produce digital images of a cross-section through the body. Some body organs made of soft tissue, such as the intestines, can be filled with a contrast medium that absorbs x rays so they can be seen on an x ray image.
- 5Why do x rays cause damage to the body? They cause ionisation.
- 6What precautions are taken against them?1. Workers should wear film badges
2. When possible use lead screen to shield them from x rays - 7What can x rays also be used for?Therapy-they can be used to treat cancerous tumours at or near the body surface
- 8What are ultrasound waves?Sound waves that have a frequency above the human hearing range
