- 1What does isochronous mean?Period is independent of amplitude. Simple harmonic oscillators are isochronous.
- 2What is SHM?Any oscillation in which the acceleration is proportional to the displacement and in the opposite direction.
- 3Give a few examples of systems that are intentionally damped.Compass needles are damped by filling the compass with a liquid.
Shock absorbers in a car are critically damped. - 4Give examples of situations in which resonance is useful, and in which it is harmful.Useful: microwave cooking; radio and TV tuning circuits
