    1. At room temperature, the water particles can move around freely. The water is in the liquid state. 2. When the water is heated, the temperature of the water begins to rise slowly. 3. This causes the water particles to gain kinetic energy, which means they gain even more movement. 4. After heating for some time, the temperature of the water reaches 100 degrees celsius.  5. Some water particles will have enough kinetic energy to leave the rest of the particles. Here the water has reached its boiling point. 6. This means that the water turns into the gas state, and is now called steam.
