Declaration of Independence

Bill of Rights

Both were written for the protection of the people from government surfeit.

Was written because Great Britain was overtaxing.

Written By Thomas Jefferson

Written by James Maddison

Was written because a motion was rejected. Failure to mention basic rights became a problem.

Both were written by our Founding Fathers

King George refused to assent to laws. He refused to pass laws.

Wanted freedom of religion, speech, press etc. Right to bear arms. Freedom of bail.

Change was going to happen

All Men Were Created Equal.

We were going to be treated fair and with respect.

We wanted to be our own.

No more taxation without representation.

Freedom!!

In my opinion, Americans today take our freedom for granted.

We say "all men are created equal but it's just something we say.

Found in the Preamble of the Constitution, is to "establish Justice, insure domestic Tranquility, provide for the common defense, promote the general Welfare, and secure the Blessings of Liberty to ourselves and our posterity

This is the purpose of the Government. These are the things the Government is supposed to stand for.
