2. Population growht and structure

- Population growth is produced by natural increase and also by migration

- The structure of the population can be analysed by looking age and gender

2.1. Natural increase and real growth

- Natural increase is the difference between births and deaths

- Real growth is the result of adding the natural increase of a country to its net migration

- Real growth can be positive or negative

-Three age groups: children (0-14), adults (15-64) and elderly people (over 65)

- Gender: more males are born (104) than females (100)

2.2. Age and gender

How to interpret age:

Population growing: high proportion of children

Population falling: high proportion of elderly people

Active population: high proportion of adults

Inactive population: high proportion of children and elderly people
