- 1—You cannot square root a negative number.
x will have to be greater than or equal to 4.

- 2What is iffiff means "if and only if"

- 3What is the absolute value of a number?Absolute value describes the distance of a number on the number line from 0 without considering which direction from zero the number lies. The absolute value of a number is never negative.
- 4What is the absolute value of 2 + |-7|?2 + -7 = -5.
-5 is 5 away from 0.
- 5Find the domain.The bottom half cannot be a 0 or negative number. Dividing by 0 or square rooting by a negative is undefined.
|x| = absolute value of x.
absolute value of -6 and 6 both equal 6. Which would make the function undefined.

- 6Find the domain.You cannot divide by 0. So if any of the bracketed statements in the denominator equal 0, it is undefined.

- 7Difference between real numbers and integers?

- 8—

- 9If x is 1, what is y?The graph has not defined 1. Do not assume there are straight lines between points on a graph.
x= 1
y= undefined.
- 10—X is not a function of y. if you input -2 into x you are getting multiple outputs of y.
A function only has 1 output.
- 11—y = 2x + 3
You can have different "x" inputs that get to the same "y" output. But you cant have 1 "x" input that gives out 2 "y" values.
- 12—It is saying to represent the dollar amount as a function and the shipping cost as the variable.
Can you represent this as a function?
D(s) = { if s = 7, D ≥ 20
if s = 4, D < 20}
The outputs are inequalities. Inequalities are not a function if they have more than 1 valid number able to plug into it.
- 13What is F(c) called?F(c) is a relative maximum value, The top of a hill.
It is a maximum value relative to the surrounding numbers.
Note that f(d) is the opposite. A relative minimum value.

- 14Turn the relative max and relative min into a word solution.

- 15What are relative extremum points?Relative extremum points are the relative maximum and relative minimum points on a co-ordinate plane.
Can also be called relative maxima and relative minima - 16In relation to relative extremum points, what would this be called.This is considered as relative minima and relative maxima.

- 17—

- 18Mark the points where f(x) is positive, f(x) is negative, f(x) is increasing, f(x) is decreasing.

- 19—

- 20What is the Y intercept?The y intercept is the when x is equal to 0
The y can be any value, but x will equal 0.
e.g. (x,y) = (0,6)
It is when the y co-ordinate line intercepts with the x co-ordinate line. - 21Another word for rate of change of a line?Slope of a line.
- 22Read out this statement in the red box, What does it say?"Delta" t - 1s

- 23What does delta mean in relation to algebra?Difference or change in a certain quantity.
- 24Is "d" (distance) a function of "t" (time) Or Is "t" (time) a function of "d" (distance)?"d" is the function of time. "t" is the input.
The left side of the equation is what you use to calculate the output.
- 25Calculate the slope.

- 26Calculate the average rate of change between the 3 orange dots.Using secant lines to find the rate of change. The middle one is 4m/s (this is not shown in the picture).

- 27What is this picture using to calculate average rate of change?Secant lines. Drawing lines between 2 dots and calculating the average rate of change.

- 28What is the average rate of change between the two points?Draw or imagine a line going between the two points. Find the difference of these two points. This is the average rate of change.
In this case, its 0.
- 29Read this out.Change in y
over
change in x.
The triangle symbol is referred to as delta.
- 30Calculating average rate of change, you are told to calculate between there parameters. x is more than -2 and less than 2. What parameters do you really calculate from?You would calculate from -2 to 2.
Even though the statement does not technically include -2 or 2. It does include 1.999999 etc....
So you may aswell calculate from -2 to 2 to make is easier.
- 31Which ones of these answers is correc?You are trying to calculate the change in y over the change in x.

- 32Create a rate of change statement from the function Y(x).Change in Y
________________
Change in x
The function goes on top. The input variable goes on bottom. - 33—
