2.1 Memory and schema

Karten in diesem Stapel (21)

  1. 1What are the five parts of the working memory?-Central executive
    -Phonological loop
    -Visuospatial sketchpad
    -Episodic buffer
    -Long term memory
What are the five parts of the working memory?
  2. 2What does the central executive do?It controls the information coming in and out of the working memory system and sends it to the relevant subsection to be processed
  3. 3What does the phonological loop do?Processes auditory information to try and aid the making of a memory trace
  4. 4What is a memory trace? The mental idea of a skill which can be sent to the long term memory to trigger a motor programme
  5. 5What does the visuospatial sketchpad do?Processes visual and spatial information (where the performer is) and also processes information about how the movement feels
  6. 6What does the episodic buffer doProcess information from the visuospatial sketchpad and the phonological loops memory traces which can be sent to the long term memory which can be used to trigger a motor programme
  7. 7How does the storage capacity of the working and long term memory differ? The long term memory has an unlimited storage capacity for motor programmes, whereas the working memory has very little capacity
  8. 8What does the long term memory do?Compare information from the memory trace to what is already known about the sporting situation and sends it back to the working memory
  9. 9What is the carrying capacity of the working memory?Around 7 pieces of information that can last for around 30 seconds
  10. 10Which factors affect how well information is stored in the long term memory?Rewards
    Association
    Mental practice
    Breaking the skill down (chunking)
    How focused the learner was
    Repetition
Chaining (like in progressive part practice)
  11. 11What is the key idea of schema theory?Core principles of a skill can be taken from existing motor programmes and then adapted using information from the environment and using feedback from the scenes to suit the situation
  12. 12What are the two types of schema?Recall schema
    Recognition schema
  13. 13What are the two subsections of recall schema?Initial conditioning
    Response specification
  14. 14What is initial conditioning with an example? The information from the environment being recognised (Where am I?). For example, a football player could recognise his position on the pitch in relation to the opposition and sidelines
  15. 15What is response specification with an example?Information from the environment is used to assess the available options. For example, how far away a teammate is will determine how hard to pass the ball
  16. 16What is the recall schema? The part of the schema which initiates movement and comes before the action
  17. 17What is the recognition schema? The part of the schema which controls the movement and happens during the action
  18. 18What are the two parts of the recognition schema?Sensory consequence
    Response outcome
  19. 19What is the sensory consequence with an example?Information about how the movement feels to guide the performer through it. For example, the legs will produce more power to strike the ball harder if the teammate is further away
  20. 20What is the response outcome with an example?Feedback about the result. For example, when I shoot, I will see that it has gone wide
  21. 21How can a coach improve schema?Use varied practice to encourage the performers to adapt their schema to new situations
They should highlight when the performer has done the skill correctly as they can then add that to their schema
