- 2What is a workbook?A spreadsheet application such as excel can store all its data in a single file (with an ".xls" extension). This file is called a 'workbook'.
- 3What is a worksheet?A workbook is made up of one or more 'worksheets'. A worksheet is a single tab in the spreadsheet workbook.
- 4What are the 3 facts about cells?- A cell reference always starts with a letter and ends in a number, e.g. H6.
- A range of cells is a set of cells in a row or column.
- Data entered into cells can be different types, e.g. text, currency, number, date, etc. - 5What does each cell contain?- LABEL - Any text in a cell describing the data in a row or column, e.g. titles, headings, etc.
- DATA - Any values (text or numbers) that are entered for the use of calculation.
- FORMULAS AND FUNCTIONS - Mathematical calculations carried out automatically. - 6What are 4 facts about formulas?- They must start with an = sign
- Formulas perform calculations on cell contents.
- Formulas appear in the formula bar.
- The result of a formula is automatically recalculated every time the data in a spreadsheet changes. - 7What is an example of a formula?=(B3*B4)+E6
This would multiply B3 by B4 and then add the answer to E6. - 8What are the 4 main mathematical operations in a spreadsheet?+ Add
- Subtract
* Multiply
/ Divide - 9What is an example of a function?=SUM(C1:C6)
- 10What are 3 facts about functions?- Must also start with an =
- Functions are part of the spreadsheet software. They are specialised calculations built in to the spreadsheet software.
- Function names describe what they do, e.g. SUM, COUNT, AVERAGE, IF, MIN, MAX.
