Karten in diesem Stapel (11)
- 1What is serial transmission? The source and destination have one channel between them that can carry 1 bit at a time. eg as USB drive
- 2What is parallel transmission? The source has several channels to the destination and each can carry 1 bit. More complex so more chance of interference
- 3What is simplex transmission?Data can only be sent in one direction. Eg a radio
- 4What is half duplex?Data can travel in both directions but not at same time. eg two way radios
- 5What is full duplex?Signal can be sent both directions simultaneously. eg phone
- 6What does a multiplexer do?When multiple devices are trying to send data along the same line, the multiplexer organises them so they don't collide
- 7What is circuit switching? This is where two nodes form a connection to transmit data, and this connection is dissolved when no longer needed. Example, the phone network
- 8Explain Packet switchingTo move data from noe node to another it is split up into a header that shows the source and destination. The data, and the trailer that shows the end of the data. A ID number and checksum is also in the header
- 9What is a protocol?A set of rules that governs the way data is sent from one device to another. This allows devices fo different kinds to understand each other
- 10How are collisions detected? If collision occur special collision signal is made and picket up by sender. Sender sends a jam signal to clear up signals in the way. After a period of time, it is resent
