- 1CPU (Central Processing Unit)The 'brain' of the computer, processing information. Many things have them, including computers, laptops and even washing machines!
- 2MotherboardThe motherboard connects the CPU to the other hardware. The CPU sits on the Motherboard.
- 3RAM (Random Access Memory)A storage unit in which programs and applications are stored. They have be edited and deleted.
- 4ROM (Read Only Memory)Information is stored in ROM which cannot be deleted or written over, such as the ability to turn on and off.
- 5Graphics cardThe Graphics card produces the visuals of the computer, the stuff on the screen.
- 6Sound CardTo produce sound, the computer must be fitted with a sound card. This is often attached to the motherboard or installed separately.
- 7PSU (Power Supply Unit)The PSU supplies the components with power. The power supply converts a 110-115 or 220-230 volt alternating current into a steady low-voltage direct current that the computer can use.
- 8CPU Fan/Heat SinkUsed to keep the CPU cool and stop it from overheating.
- 9Hard DriveThe Hard Disk Drive, sometimes referred to as the Hard Drive, HD or HDD, stores or retrieves information.
