Karten in diesem Stapel (24)
- 1What is an operating system? They interact with hardware, manage resources and create an interface
- 2What are utility programs?Perform operations required by the system such as file management
- 3What are libraries? They provide pre-compiled functions for use by other programs
- 4What is application software?Performs tasks beyond the running of the system, like a game
- 5What do hardware drivers do (OS)Allow the OS to run on specific hardware
- 6What resources are managed by the OSMemory is allocated to the running processes, processor time is split between running programs, enables multitasking
- 7What is machine codeBinary instructions that are fetched and executed by the CPU
- 8Advantages of low level languagesComplete control over the CPU, execution time can be known, Faster more efficient programs
- 9Disadvantages of low level languagesHard for humans to read and understand, Very hard to create complex programs
- 10Advantages of High level languagesEasy for a human to read/code within. Easy to find errors
- 11Disadvantages of high level codePrograms are generally slower as the translation might not be 100% efficient
- 12AssemblerTranslates assembly code into binary for the CPU to execute. Just translates mnemonics into binary
- 13CompilerTranslates the entire code all at once into machine code. Only usable for the hardware set it was designed for, but it is fast to run as an executable file is created and does not need to be translated in execution
- 14InterpreterCode is translated line by line as the program is running (which means it is slower) but can work on all hardware. Not secure as entire source code is distributed
- 15What is byte code? Some languages (like java) compile the high level code into low level code called byte code.
- 16Why is byte code faster?Byte code is designed for an interpreter to run, but is much
faster than interpreting the source code directly, as much of the
translation was done at compile stage - 17What is required for byte code to run?The required interpreter must be installed to translate byte code (for java this is the JRE)
- 18What is a half adder?Adds two inputs to output a sum and a carry
- 19What is a full adder?A full adder adds together two inputs and a carry-in to produce a sum and carry-out
- 20What is a D-type flip flop?A component that acts as memory. It stays as its current state until the trigger is activated. When the trigger is activated, the output is changed to match the input
- 21Associate law

- 22Distributive law

- 23Absorption law

- 24De morgan's LawSplit the line, change the sign
