- 1Transmitting dataAgree factors
1. The direction of the data transmission
(i.e. in one direction only or in both directions)
2. The method of transmission (how many bits are sent at the same time)
3. The method of synchronisation between two devices - 2simplex half-duplex and full-duplexSimplex data transmission is one direction only
half-duplex transmition is in directions but not at the same full-duplex data transmission is in directions simulta - 3AsynchronousAsynchronous data transmission refers to data being transmitted in an agreed bit pattern.
data (1s and 0s) are grouped together and sent with control bits.
Synchronous data transmission is a continuous stream of data.
the data is accompanied by timing signals generated by an internal clock. This ensures that the sender and receiver are synchronised with each other.
The receiver counts how many bits (1s and 0s) were - 4SerialData is a sent one bit at time over a single wire/channel.
Bits are sent one after the other in a single stream.
Works well over long distances.
This type of data transmission is slow.
An example of its use is sending data from a CPU and the memory. - 5ParallelSeveral bits of data (usually a byte) are sent down several wires or channels at the same time.
Works well over short distance.
over long distances, the bits can be become skewed-this means they will no longer be synchronised.
A faster method of data transmission.
An example of its use is sending data from a computer to a modern for transmission over a telephone line.
