this equal this because 3x squared (3 x 3) equals 9 then to get the 30 you do 2 x 3x x 5 and then 5 squared (5 x 5) equals 25 - 3factorise this using HCF (highest common factor) 20a^2 + 30a20a^2 + 30a
= 10a(2a + 3)
we got ten because you find the HCF in both numbers, in this case it was 10 then put that outside the bracket, then put inside the bracket what it would equal e.g. 10a time 2a is 20a^2 - 4factorise using HCF -3x - 12-3(x + 4)
- 5factorise this trinomial x^2 + 9x + 20= x^2 + 9x + 20
5 + 4 = 9 and 5 x 4 = 20
= (x +4) (x + 5)
you need to find the numbers that add to equal in this case 9 and multiply to equal in this case to 20 - 6factorise this trinomial 2x^2 - 10x - 282x^2 - 10x - 28
= 2(x^2 - 5x - 14)
-7 + 2 = -5 and -7 x 2 = -14
2(x - 7) (x + 2)
you do this one the same as the previous one expect at the start pull the coefficient of x outside the bracket and factorise everything then continue as normal
