Cognitive development.

Describes the evolution or development of children in terms of thinking, construction and knowledge.

In the stages of cognitive development the following aspects are considered:

scheme:structure of the individual person to interpret information.

Assimilation: is a mental process occurs, the child incorporates new findings.

Accomodation: is a mental process the child adjusts information of new schemes.

Stages of cognitive development

Sensoriomotor stage(0-2 years)

children begin to understand the information that their senses perceive and their ability to interact with the world.

preoperational stage (2-7 years)

they learn to interact with the environment in a more complex way using words and mental images.

concrete operational stage(7-12 years)

they have the ability to focus on more than one aspect in a stimulus and begin to reason logically.

formal operational stage (12-maturity)

they begin to develop abstract thinking and to use formal logic.
