• Is the patient stable? 

• Ventilator Alarms

• Administer 100% oxygen via ventilator 02 button. 

• NO

• Which alarm is ringing?

• YES

• Low Volume (Pt not receiving preset tidal volume)

• High Volume (More pressure is needed to ventilate than than current tidal volume)

• Low Pressure

• High Pressure

• Apnea

• Check for circuit disconnection. 

• Suction (oral and ETT)

• - ventilator tubing disconnection  - airway cuff leak or displacement - increased airway resistance   - decreased lung compliance

• - excessive secretions - pneumothorax - decreased lung compliance

• Call for help!
