  1. QUALITY PHILOSOPHERS

  2. WILLIAM EDWARDS DEMING

  3. Dr. W. Edwards Deming offered 14 key principles for management to follow to significantly improve the effectiveness of a business or organization. Many of the principles are philosophical. Others are more programmatic.

Deming's greatest contribution to quality processes in Japan is statistical process control, which is a mathematical language with which managers and operators can understand "what the machines say." Process variations affect the fulfillment of the promised quality.

  4. JOSEPH M. JURAN

  5. Dr. Joseph M. Juran is considered by many to be the father of many of the quality management techniques still used in industry today.

Dr. Juran’s quality management approach is based on three key principles. The first is application of the Pareto Principle– also known as the “80/20 rule.”

The second principle of Juran’s approach to quality is management theory.

The final principle consists of three processes often known collectively as the Juran trilogy.

  6. PHILIP CROSBY

  7. Crosby founded Philip Crosby and Associates, which was an international consulting firm on quality improvement. Crosby's principle, Doing It Right the First Time, was his answer to the quality crisis. He defined quality as full and perfect conformance to the customers' requirements. The essence of his philosophy is expressed in what he called the Absolutes of Quality Management and the Basic Elements of Improvement.

  8. ARMAND V. FEIGENBAUM

  9. Armand V. Feigenbaum is also known for his concept of the hidden plant. That is that in every factory a certain proportion of its capacity is wasted through not getting it right the first time. Feigenbaum quoted a figure of up to 40% of the capacity of the plant is wasted. At the time this was an unbelievable figure; even today some managers are still to learn that this is a figure not too far removed from the truth.

  10. Ishikawa is well known for coming up with the concept for the fishbone shaped diagram, known as the Ishikawa or cause and effect diagram, used to improve the performance of teams in determining potential root causes of their quality problems.

This is the most commonly used to analyze a problem and to find out the potential causes creating the problem.

Ishikawa Diagram is one of the Seven Basic Quality Tools promoted by Ishikawa.
