About Quality Management and TQM

GoConqr Original

What the resources cover

This page sits in the Quality Engineering and Management strand of Industrial engineering and quality. Most of it is mind maps, which break quality management into short branches. You will find maps on quality gurus, Deming's 14 - Point Philosophy, Kaoru Ishikawa, the seven basic tools of quality, quality costs, Six Sigma foundations and TQM implementation.

The quizzes test the same ground. House of Quality QUiz asks what each numbered section of the house represents. QMS-ISMS Quiz looks at the organisational triad and plan-test steps. The first quiz listed, QDM Final, asks about the categories of quality costs and about poka-yoke, the Japanese term for mistake-proofing.

Where to start

  1. Open the TQM mind map for the big picture: commitment, competence, communication and continuous improvement.
  2. Read THE PIONEERS OF TQM or Quality Gurus to place Crosby, Deming and Ishikawa.
  3. Move to QFD - House of Quality, which walks from customer needs to benchmarking competitors.
  4. Finish with the quality tools maps, then the quizzes.

Using quizzes and maps together

Read a map first, then take a related quiz without looking back. INMGT 325- Chapter 2 Quiz pairs well with the maps on Deming and Crosby, because it asks about their philosophies. When you miss a question, go back to the branch that covers it and read it again.

Flashcards suit short definitions. The 8 Dimensions of Quality deck and the Kano Analysis deck are quick to run through, and the Total Quality Management (TQM) deck covers key terms. Some resources are in Spanish, so there is a chance to practise the vocabulary in both languages.

Exams and study stages

Some resources mention PMP, APM, APICS and ASQ CQE, so professional candidates will find material that fits their revision. The Sab-numbered maps follow the Plan Quality Management process, including the quality costs map.

Frequently asked questions

Which quiz should I try first?

QDM Final is a good opener because it mixes several ideas: what quality improvements can achieve, the major categories of quality costs, and poka-yoke. If the results show gaps, move on to the House of Quality QUiz or the QMS-ISMS Quiz for narrower practice.

What do the mind maps cover?

They cover quality gurus, Deming's 14 points, Ishikawa, the seven basic tools, quality costs, the House of Quality, Kaizen, supplier partnership, TQM implementation and quality management systems. There are over 600 of them, so you can compare how different contributors lay out the same topic.

Are the resources free to use?

Yes. Every resource listed here is free to open, study and take, with no account needed. They were made by GoConqr users, not by GoConqr. A free account also saves your quiz scores and lets you create your own quizzes, mind maps, flashcards and notes.

Which exams and levels do these suit?

The resources are mostly university level, with a good share aimed at professional candidates. Some of them mention PMP, APM, APICS and ASQ CQE. Teachers can use the quizzes, maps and flashcard sets as ready-made material for classes.

Is there anything besides quizzes and maps?

Yes. There are more than 40 flashcard sets, such as Poka Yoke ++ ISO 9001 Quality Management System (QMS) and Kaizen and Kaikaku. You will also find flowcharts on quality control, slide sets such as Quality Management Processes, and notes on topics like Ishikawa Diagrams.

What if I cannot find the topic I need?

Try nearby topics first. Quality tools, quality costs and quality management systems each appear in several resources, under different titles. If a gap remains, you can make your own mind map, flashcards or notes on it with a free account.
