    • Interactive design development I
      • Course outline
        • DESCRIPTION: Students will learn the basics of interactive design and development, starting with creative coding and programming fundamentals to generate functional user interfaces. Interactive design concepts and best practices will be introduced and applied to create intuitive, engaging interactive experiences and simple web based applications. Students will learn to use industry standard tools and technologies, focusing particularly on HTML5 and JavaScript.
          • TOPICS LEARNED: Unit 1 – Course Overview + Hello World Intro to Interactive Design and Development 1, Course Outline, expectations and "Hello World" Activity adding JavaScript to a simple HTML Document. Unit 2 – Getting Started with JavaScript This unit will introduce interactive coding fundamentals in JavaScript, including: adding JavaScript to an HTML document, basic JavaScript syntax, variables, operators, and conditions, as well as some best practices and debugging strategies. Unit 3 – JavaScript Building Blocks This unit will continue to focus on coding fundamentals in JavaScript, reinforcing topics from the previous unit while introducing arrays, loops and functions, and linking separate JavaScript files to HTML documents.
            • APPLICATION: Complete both individual and collaborative interactive media projects effectively. select and use best practices and tools to design and develop dynamic, rich-media content. design a complex media project (interface, navigation, graphics, text treatment) using best practice design and development principles, and applying conceptual and theoretical frameworks. build effective and dynamic complex Web sites and/or mobile applications. apply a systematic approach to solve problems.
    • 3D Design I
      • DESCRIPTION: In this course, students will learn how to create and render scenes using an industry standard 3D modeling and rendering application. They will develop an understanding on how a 3D design application works and its uses in interactive media design. Students will develop knowledge on how to create and layout 3D geometry, apply materials, use lighting and learn the workflow to render and save 3D imagery.
        • TOPICS LEARNED: complete both individual and collaborative interactive media projects effectively. select and use best practices and tools to design and develop dynamic, rich-media content. assess the requirements of a complex interactive media project. design a complex media project (interface, navigation, graphics, text treatment) using best practice design and development principles, and applying conceptual and theoretical frameworks. select and use creative and critical thinking techniques in the effective design, development and implementation of a complex interactive media project.
          • APPLICATION: Create All Standard And Extended Primitive Objects, Extruded And Bent Text, Light A Scene And Apply Materials To An Array Of Objects, Render Setup Template
    • Web Design Development I
      • DESCRIPTION: Students will create original, visually appealing websites, following current web development practices and sound design principles. Starting with a solid foundation in creating and structuring basic HTML5 web pages, students will then learn the basics of contemporary web design using CSS. Such topics as website planning, content creation, accessibility, copyright and user experience will also be introduced and evaluated. Throughout the course, there will be a focus on current trends and emerging technologies and solutions in the web industry. This course is designed to build a foundation for the more advanced web design and development courses in the Interactive Media Program.
        • TOPICS LEARNED: Unit 1 – Course Overview + Hello World Unit 2 – What is the Internet and how does it work? Unit 3 – What is a web page? Unit 4 – Semantic HTML5 Structure and More Text Content
          • APPLICATION: Complete both individual and collaborative interactive media projects effectively. VLO 2 select and use best practices and tools to design and develop dynamic, rich-media content. VLO 5 design a complex media project (interface, navigation, graphics, text treatment) using best practice design and development principles, and applying conceptual and theoretical frameworks. VLO 6 build effective and dynamic complex Web sites and/or mobile applications. VLO 8 apply research and conceptual skills to propose optimal solutions for mobile/multimedia/Web development problems.
