Network Security
Network Vulnerabilities and Risks
- Malware is software which is specifically designed to disrupt, damage, or gain authorized access to a computer system.
- Phishing is the attempt to gain sensative infomation that is not avilable without consent
- Ransomware is a type of malicious software designed to block access to a computer system until a sum of money is paid.
- Trojan horse is a program designed to breach the security of a computer system while ostensibly performing some innocuous function.
- Brute force attack is for situations such as password guessing were a computer will run a series of numbers until it gets a correct combination
- Denial of service is an interruption in an authorized user's access to a computer network, typically one caused with malicious intent.
- Social Engineering is the use of deception to manipulate individuals into divulging confidential or personal information that may be used for fraudulent purposes.
- Man in the middle is an attack where the attacker secretly relays and possibly alters the communication between two parties who believe they are directly communicating with each other.
- Data interception is When packets travel across a network, they are susceptible to being read, altered or hijacked
- Packet Sniffing is a packet analyzer is a computer program or piece of computer hardware that can intercept and log traffic that passes over a digital network or part of a network.
- SQL Injection is an injection attack wherein an attacker can execute malicious SQL statements
Prevention Methods Network
- Anti-Malware Software is a thing that finds and removes malware.
- Firewall is protect (a network or system) from unauthorized access with a firewall.
- User access levels is roups of users with different levels of access to the network. At the highest level, the network manager can install and remove software, access all user areas and change permissions.
- Password strength checker is put in place to make shure individual passwords are at the highest difficulty to hack and overide.
- Data Encrypyion is a symmetric-key algorithm for the encryption of electronic data. Although now considered insecure, it was highly influential in the advancement of modern cryptography.
- Storage device virus scanning is a device that that destroys malware from the source of the computers storage.
- Penetration testing is colloquially known as a pen test, is an authorized simulated attack on a computer system, performed to evaluate the security of the system.
- , Network Forensics is a sub-branch of digital forensics relating to the monitoring and analysis of computer network traffic for the purposes of information gathering, legal evidence, or intrusion detection.
- Network security policies are a generic document that outlines rules for computer network access, determines how policies are enforced and lays out some of the basic architecture of the company security/ network security environment.
