Unlike other areas of digital forensics, network investigations deal with volatile and dynamic information.
  9. Network Security Policies.

    • A network security policy, or NSP, is a generic document that outlines rules for computer network access, determines how policies are enforced and lays out some of the basic architecture of the company security/ network security environment. The document itself is usually several pages long and written by a committee.
  10. Storage Device Virus Scanning

    • The Data Encryption Standard is a symmetric-key algorithm for the encryption of electronic data. Although now considered insecure, it was highly influential in the advancement of modern cryptography.
  11. At the highest level, the network manager can install and remove software, access all user areas and change permissions. At lower levels, a group of users may only be able to access particular pieces of software and their files stored in their own areas.

  12. In computing, a firewall is a network security system that monitors and controls incoming and outgoing network traffic based on predetermined security rules.
