TYPES OF COMPUTER

1. PC/desktop computers

   • ADVANTAGES:
     • -Spare parts and connections tend to be standardised, which usually results in lower costs.
     • -The desktop tends to have a better specification for a given price.
   • DISADVANTAGES:
     • -The most obvious is that they are not particularly portable since they are made up of separate components.
     • -They tend to be more complicated since all the components need to be carried round with you and then connected to the computer by wires connection.

2. Laptop computers

   • ADVANTAGES:
     • -The most obvious is their portability; they can be taken anywhere sonce the monitor, pointing, device, keyboard, processor and backing store units are all together in one single unit.
     • -They can take full advantage of Wi-Fi.
   • DISADVANTAGES:
     • -Since they are easily portable, they are also easier to steal.
     • -The y have limited battery life, so the user may need to carry a heavy adaptor.

3. Tablets

   • ADVANTAGES:
     • -Very fast to switch on.
     • Battery life of a tablet is a lot longer.
   • DISADVANTAGES:
     • -They often have limited memory or storage copared to a laptop.
     • -They can be expensive to run if the internet is being accessed frequently via 3G/4G/5G mobile phone networks.

4. Smartphones

   • ADVANTAGES:
     • -They are very small in size and lightweight- therefore very easy to carry.
     • -Can use them to make phone calls as well as connect to the internet while on the move.
   • DISADVANTAGES:
     • -Web browsing and photography can drain the battery quickly.
     • -Not all website features are compatible with smartphone operating systems.

5. Smartwatches

   • ADVANTAGES:
     • -They are very easy to use for monitoring fitness and health regimes.
     • -They are even more convenirnt than smartphones .
   • DISADVANTAGES:
     • -They tend to be unttractive in design.
     • -Are relatively large and bulky.

6. Mainframe

   • ADVANTAGES:
     • -Huge amounts of storage capacity.
     • -They can have several CPUS.
   • DISADVANTAGES:
     • -Very big.
     • -Consumes to much energy.
