Operating Systems
How it works?
- Operating systems provide a software platform above which other programs called applications can run. Applications are programmed to operate above a particular operating system, therefore, the choice of operating system largely determines the applications that can use
What is an OS?
- An Operating System is the basic software of a computer that provides an interface between the other computer programs, hardware devices and user
Types of OS
- Multitasking: allows multiple programs to be executed simultaneously
- Multi-leg: allows different parts of a single program operated at the same time
- Real Time, responds immediately to the inputs
- Multiprocessor: supports open same program on more than one cpu
- Multiuser: allows two or more users use their programs simultaneously. Some operating systems permit hundreds or thousands of users simultaneously
OS Developments
- In the late 1940s, with what could be considered the emergence of the first generation of computers, there were no systems operativos.A early 50 operating system makes a discreet appearance. During the 60s and 70s there were noticeable changes, mostly aimed at further increasing the potential of computers and operating systems. UNIX and Multics arise. During the 80's with the integration of large-scale circuits and chips containing thousands of transistors began the rise of computers. -Mac OS-MS DOS
OS Functions
- · Management of the processor ·Management Random Access Memory ·Management of inputs and outputs ·Management application execution ·Manage authorization ·Information Management · File Management
