Cloud Storage
Server: Files are stored on servers so they can be accessed via the internet.
Downloading: When you want to access the media, the data is downloaded or streamed to the device. It remains in the file in the cloud unless you delete it.
Uploading: Data on your device can also be uploaded to the cloud
Synchronising: You can also synchronise with the cloud. You could sync the photo library on your iPhone with the iCloud so the photos are backed up and can be accessed from any device
Cloud storage is whre files are created and used ,on one or more computers or devices, are stored and managed remotely
Features and Usages
- Users can choose to pay for more storage, this is an example of scalability
- The alternative to using an online service from your phone provider is to use other services provided a third party. Setting this service up with a provider is to register an account and provide relevant details
- It is useful for storing backups of your files
Scalability is where users have the option to change the amount of storage they can access and use. If you need more, you can rent additional space. If you don't need the amount of storage they give you, you can reduce it to save money.
Files and media can only be accesses when there is an internet connection. If the connection is broke, access will be terminated.
- The speed of the connection will also impact the speed at which files upload, download or stream
- If there is a suitable connection, data and files can be accessed 24/7
The EU has a list of countries outside of the EU that can provide adequate protection for your data
- Andorra, Argentina, Canada, New Zealand, Switzerland etc
