Memory - Advertising
Cues
- Using cues can trigger memories. Advertisers do this by relating the product to something happy, for example, and therefore can assist the person to buy the product as they associate the product with happiness and the product itself.
Repetition
- Most advertisements repeat certain words or phrases to make sure that consumers (people who buy the products) transfer the information to the long term memory. This will lead to the consumers remembering the key information and therefore be more inclined to purchasing the said product.
Not overloading
- Not overloading is a skill in which involves short and snappy slogans to assist the consumer in recalling the product. Not overloading also helps by ensuring the product is not displaced or forgotten in the short term memory and long term memory.
Autobiographical advertising
- Advertisers sometimes use images or sounds directed towards the audiences' past. This means that the consumer will associate the product to their childhood memories in which they are fond of and therefore encourage themselves to buy the product.
Social Influence - Majority and Minority influence
- The majority influence
- The majority influence means a big group of people affect the actions of the smaller group. The majority should identify with the minority through peer-to-peer delivery of messages.
- They should also expose themselves to the minority group so they can attempt to understand and empathise with their illness.
- They should also set a good example and be a good role model.
- Minority influence is the actions of a smaller group affecting the behaviour of a larger group.
- The minority need to use clear and consistent messages to understand that stigmas exist.
- Must be flexible and avoid finger wagging to avoid lectured feelings.
- Make efforts to understand mental health.
- The majority influence
Activation Synthesis - Treating insomnia/Preventing
- Making sure all electronic equipment is turned off, as the light from the device acts as an exogenous zeitgeber and therefore will keep you awake,
- All light in the room should be reduced e.g. installing black out curtains or making sure they are closed. This helps keep the light out and therefore melatonin will not be stimulated by the SCN.
- Treatments
- Breathing exercises are techniques in which clear the body of stress and tension. Inhaling deeply through the nose and holding your breath increases the body's oxygen levels, normalising the breathing rate and also focusing any attention on your breathing rather than any stress.
Development - Education
- The current use of the key stages (sensori, pre operational, concrete and formal) can help education/aid cognitive development. If a teacher teaches a class at the same cognitive development stage, it is easier for the teacher to teach the class as they're at the same ability and also easier to set targets.
- The teacher should also make their lessons appropriate for their students' stage of development. This should be used through the effective use of readiness by ensuring children in the pre-op stage are not given tasks that children in the formal operational stage are known to do.
- Active learning can also help as Piaget referred to children as scientists, so they need to discover things on their own. Teachers shouldn't measure how the task is done, but also think about how the child has learnt how to solve problems and think creatively.
Psychological Problems - Treatments
- Anti psychotics
