Connect 4 + 2
Overview
- Connect 4 + 2 is AC Development's 2nd game design idea, it is similar to Connect 4 however the game will also be accessible for people who are visually impaired. The player has to use chips/counters and place them into a slim vertical table, the first person to get six in a row wins the game.
- The maximum amount of players that are allowed to play Connect 4 + 2 is 2, this is because the more players that are added into the game, the more complicated it becomes. In addition to this, it would be harder to get in 6 a row with 3 or 4 players playing the game.
- Connect 4 + 2 uses letters instead of colours and the counters/chips will be textured so it is easier for the player to differentiate between which counter is their's and which isn't.
Main features
- The game will be made using a bigger scale so that the players have more mobility. This is a main feature because it changes the aesthetic of the game itself and improves the player's experience overall.
- Connect 4 + 2 will use counters that have letters indented into them, this is so that if the player is visually impaired they can feel the counter before using it so they know if they are choosing the right one.
Core mechanics
- There are only 2 players allowed, this is because the game will not work quite as well if there are a large amount of people playing the game.
- One mechanic of the game is that the player will have to drop the counter into the slot in order to play the game, the player who reaches 6 in a row wins the game. Since it is 6 in a row and not 4, the game becomes more intense and challenging which is important because it keeps the players involved engaged in the game.
- The table will be larger so that the players have more space to place their counters. It is also a core mechanic because without this, the game will finish quicker and this might have a negative impact on the player's game play experience.
Characters
- There are no characters in Connect 4 + 2 as it is a rather simple, strategy game. In my opinion it would be less appealing if there were characters introduced into the game, as the game is straight to the point and has no plot line or story.
- As there are no players the counters will be ingrained with letters instead so if the player is visually impaired they can understand which counter belongs to them.
Target audience
- Connect 4 + 2 is catered towards all ages, this is because the game is a non-violent or suggestive game. It is a strategy based game so the player is required to use their brain in order to win the game.
- Since the game caters towards all ages, the secondary audience would be the same, if the game is advertised for adults, then the secondary audience would be children and vice versa.
Genre
- Connect 4 + 2 is an abstract strategy game designed to challenge the player's tactical abilities. This is interesting because it allows the players involved to improve their tactical abilities which could come in use later on in life.
- Connect 4 + 2 is based off of connect 4, an ancient board game that is played even today but as a more modernised version. The idea of using a strategy game might help assist those who have trouble thinking or communicating with others, as using tactics requires the brain to work and exercise more.
Target platform
- Connect 4 + 2 is going to be based as a board game platform because it is less complicated. Since Connect 4 is quite popular, it would make sense to have Connect 4 + 2 as a board game; the game is also accessible to those who are visually impaired or have mobility issues as well as people who don't.
Environment
- Connect 4 + 2 is a table top/ board game that uses counters or chips to make certain moves that eventually allow the player to win. There are no visual environments except for the overall structure of the game itself. The game will be tall and shaped like a rectangle, with holes in where the counters will be visible after they have been slotted in through the top.
